The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, also known as Mama Taraba, is set to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to the United Democratic Party, UDP.
According to Punch, Mama Taraba resigned her appointment as a Minister on Friday morning. An aide to Alhassan, who pleaded anonymity disclosed the development. She was said to be waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari’s response before joining the UDP.
However, the media aide to the Minister, Bala Maina, told Punch that the resignation remained a speculation and that the former minister would react at the appropriate time.
He said, “We can’t say anything for now, but note that the masses own the party and we shall always align ourselves with their verdict.”
Alhassan’s resignation and move to join the UDP is as a result of the recent decision made by the National Working Committee of the APC to disqualify her from running in the Taraba State governorship election on its platform.
Alhassan and the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, were disqualified by the National Workin Committee of the APC from contesting the governorship primary in their respective states.
The National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had in a press conference in Abuja on Friday outlined the reasons both Ministers were disqualified.
