The unlawful desperation of some ‘sponsored’ aspirants to be the All Progressives Congress, APC, flag bearer in Enugu State caused the crisis in Enugu APC governorship primaries which resulted to the cancellation of the undemocratic process by the National Leadership of the party.

It would have been a different case if the desperation had met with credibility, but that was not the case. In the view of the masses of which is very obvious to all, some of these aspirants lack credibility with the bad record of disappointing the people in their past political positions.

Another school of thought has highlighted lack of adequate progressive orientation to some aspirants especially those who defected to APC from other parties that lack internal democracy. The time interval between when they defected and when they picked form was not enough to change their former usual political malpractice to the APC progressive ideology.

They conspired to stop Barr. George Ogara and his teeming supporters from gaining access to the venue of the primaries by resorting to the use of thugs and the opposition machineries in the state. The fear and fever of losing to Barr. Ogara and the unwillingness to accept defeat after a peaceful and transparent election is another factor to be considered.

There were reports of people being moved into Enugu from other neighbouring states to impersonate as delegates in the primaries.

But unfortunately to them, the conspiracy suffered setbacks when the National Leadership of the Party nullified the said primaries, rescheduled it to hold on October 4th and changed the mode of the primaries from indirect to more democratic direct primaries.

The announcement caused wide jubilations across Enugu State. Barr. George Ogara thanked the Leadership of the party in Enugu and National for the prompt intervention in the matter.

The truth is now unfolding as some aspirants who were sponsored by the PDP-led government with the hope of gaining political positions after election, expressed shock at the change of the mode of the primaries. Their conspiracy has failed!
