Water is said to be one of the essential needs of mankind.
No doubt it is classified as one of the social amenities every government should make available to her citizenry.
Therefore, it was a joyful moment in Agbero district of Alor-Agu, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday, the 6th of March, 2021 as the people of the area vowed to complete the government abandoned borehole project in the area.
Explaining the importance of water during the fund raising meeting held at the borehole arena in the district, the chairman of Agbero General Assembly, a non political organisation pushing for the project, Mr. Bemuka Attama said water is a resources that has no enemy in the society, hence the need to make it available for human consumption.
Mr. Attama urged those resident in the area to support the project to ensure speedy completion.
On his part, the Chief priest of Nwada Adoro deity, Edoga Otamashi Emmanuel Attama said though it is the responsibility of the government to provide water for the citizens buy they have decided to give in their supports to the government while they expect more dividends from them in other areas.
Appreciating the district for their commitment in alleviating the sufferings of Agbero people and Alor-Agu community in general, the President General of the community, Barr. Cosmas Ugwu described the move as a welcome development, adding that Alor-Agu community would support the efforts geared towards achieving the project in that part of the community.
The PG commended the organisers of the fund raising meeting, and urged other parts of the community to emulate the idea.
Similarly, the chairman People’s Democratic Party, PDP Alor-Agu ward, Mr. Salisu Ayogu lamented over the sufferings associated with water scarcity in the Agbero, and pledged his support in the project.
Describing Agbero as “Anambra” of Alor-Agu community, Mr. Salisu said even though he is not from Agbero, the project when completed would benefit the entire Alor-Agu community.
Also at the launching, the Igwe designate of Alor-Agu autonomous community, Christian Ugwuanyi commended Agbero people, stressing that whoever does good receives blessings from God.
Ugwuanyi said Agbero over the years depends on neighbouring communities for drinking water, pointing out that Agbero could not continue to wait for the government, hence the need to have such project completed.
The royal father advised Agbero to remain united despite who contributes and who does not.
The meeting had in attendance, former Chairman, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Hon. Chris Omeje, Mr. Augustine Okoro, Vincent Ezeja Eze, Councilor Alor-Agu ward, Hon. Chuks Omeke, and many others.
