ESN: CASUALTIES RECORDED AS OPERATION EXTENDS TO ENUGU COMMUNITY

Eastern Security Network, ESN is a security oufit established by a freedom seeking group called Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The IPOB established the Security Network to enable the people of Igbo extraction get rid of herders/farmers clashes in the region.

According to the leader of the secessionist group, “Biafrans no longer trust the security personnel in the country for protecting the lives and properties of the people, hence the need to protect themselves”.

Recall that the people of the Western Nigeria also have similar security outfit called, Amotekun which operates with government back up within the region.

Barely few months now, the ESN had issue with Nigerian army at Orlu in Imo state, which resulted to lost of lives and properties worth millions of naira.

Similarly, early this week it was reported that about six persons were killed at Adani community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu state following clashes between armed herders and the ESN.

It was reported that trouble started when some herdsmen allegedly shot a member of Igga community in his farm and disallowed helpers from taking the victim to the hospital.

The SLIDEnews learnt that the action of the herders not to allow the injured farmer to be taken to the hospital caused turmoil that attracted members of the Eastern Security Network, ESN to the scene, leading to a showdown.

According to an eye witness, it was amid the attempt to resuscitate the young man with bullet wound that some angry youths on motorcycles stormed the scene and started shooting at those barricading the farmer from receiving medical attention.

Some residents of Adani, who did not want their names mentioned, claimed that hunters and even some local vigilante had before now encountered some unfamiliar faces said to be ESN personnel in the forests in the area, who told them that they were not after law-abiding residents.

The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, and other top security operatives in the state at the time of filing this report had visited Adani, the scene of the incident for fact-finding and possible solution.

Confirming the incident, the Enugu state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ndukwe, who accompanied the CP to the area promised to soon give details of what happened.

Adani Uzo-Uwani, an agrarian Community have been suffering herdmen attacks over the years especially the painful massacre that took place in the area about 3 years ago.
