The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state at the last 2019 elections, Senator Ayogu Eze, has been suspended by the Party Ward executives and members, from the party due to anti-party activities of the ex-senator. At an emergency extra ordinary meeting at the Umozzi Ward 7 party office today the 18th of June 2021, a cross section of the members and principal officers of the party gathered under the leadership of the chairman Caretaker/extraordinary, Convention Planning Committee of the ward, Mr. Nwokedi Paul Ugwuoke to make the proclamation.

In a letter addressed to the The Chairman Caretaker/extraordinary, Convention Planning Committee, All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State Chapter, Dr. Ben Nwoye and copied to the National Secretary of the party, the members listed six (6) verifiable incidents of gross anti-party activities of Senator Ayogu Eze: 1. Working against the growth of the party in Ozzi Ward (7) in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State punishable under ARTICLE 21. All Progressives Congress (APC) Constitution 2014.

2. Senator Simon Ayogu Eze in disobedience of the constitution of the lawful directives of our great party refused to participate in 2019 election without recourse to the party on the very day of the election; claiming that his name was not in the ballots and no money was extended to him from Abuja by party and therefore sacked all the State Assembly Candidates by 12.00am on the eve of the election day.

3. Advising all members of the party in Igbo Eze North and other Local Government areas to boycott the election when the election materials were being shared in the polling booths everywhere in Enugu state and the one behind his fence. His mischief decision caused uproar that led to the death of our loyal member of our party.

4. Senator Simon Ayogu Eze during the burial of his father in law before the whole world in Township school (1) Ogrute, Enugu Ezike in Igbo North Local government area flouted the rules, regulations and decisions of the party engaging in dishonest practices by openly carrying out gross anti-party activities or other activities which tend to disrupt the lawful and efficient of the party by saying that the PDP government led by His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi must be supported by all members of All Progressives Congress (APC) which are inconsistent with the aims and objective of our great party under ARTICLE 21 (7)

5. That Senator Ayogu Eze during 1000 job empowerment in the 774-local government by the Federal Government protested that as the gubernatorial candidate of All Progress Congress in Enugu state; that he deserves to produce ward coordinator to distribute the empowerment forms in our ward which he was granted by the state coordinator but to our chagrin Distinguished Senator Simon Ayogu Eze ordered the Coordinator Mrs. Fidelia Eze to hand over all the ward forms to his mother who was a widow waiting to bury her husband. Unfortunately, the innocent widow who is not even a member of our party shared the forms to their cronies and families as instructed by the Senator abandoning the party members their fate thereby causing a serious disunity amongst members of our great party. 6. Senator Ayogu Eze has never attended meetings or acknowledged the Ward party structure and vehemently refused to recognize the elected ward chairman of our great party in the name of Mr. Nwokedi Paul Ugwoke since his entrant in party.

Echoing the words of the ward chairman was the Secretary of the ward Mr. Jonathan Abugu, when he explained that the process of suspending Sen. Ayogu Eze followed due process in accordance with the laid down directives in the constitution of the APC. According to him, Sen. Eze had severally shunned invitation to several investigative panels set up by the ward to give him a fair hearing on the multiple accusations of anti-party activities leveled against him. “From last year till recently, Sen. Eze had been invited 3 times to meet with the investigative panel, and at each occasion he failed to acknowledge the invite thereby giving the panel no other choice than to recommend for his immediate suspension from the party” said Abugu.

Also speaking, the woman leader of the ward, Mrs. Nnedinso Omeje stated that the party had never felt the presence of Senator Ayogu Eze since he entered the party just before the 2019 elections, of which he flew the flag of the party at the governorship election. Her words: “It has never felt as if Sen. Ayogu Eze even belong to this ward since he joined in 2018. He doesn’t attend meetings and never takes care of the needs of the party as someone that was rewarded with our governorship ticket. All he does is try to drag us to meet with the state Governor and PDP members. His activities are against the rules and regulations of the party, so we are all in support of his suspension”.

In the suspension letter dated 18th June 2021 and sighted by journalists and signd by at least 20 members and principal officers of the party at the ward level, the Umozzi ward 7 advised the state chapter and national headquarters of the party, to henceforth seize the recognition accorded to Sen. Ayogu Eze as a member of the party in the ward. With this situation, the APC in Enugu state in general and Igbo-eze north LGA might be on the test of party constitution path similar to the one that ousted the former National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
