The senator representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, has canvassed for the old Nsukka cultural zone to be allowed to hold the governorship of the state for another eight years in the spirit of equity and equality.

In an interview with journalists in Abuja, he said his call was borne out of the need for fairness in the exercise of the highest political office in the state.

Utazi, who is the Senate Committee chairman on Primary Healthcare and Communicable Diseases, traced the historical sharing of power in the state among three cultural zones, Enugu, Nsukka and Ebonyi, and after the carving out of Ebonyi State in 1996, the power equation naturally revolves between Enugu and Nsukka.

He pointed out that since 1999, Enugu zone has held the governorship for 16 years, and only eight years for Nsukka at the expiry of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s second term tenure in 2023.
