The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has alleged that the glory of the state which is regarded as the capital of Igboland “has been destroyed by the ruling cabal in the state.”
The Enugu State Chairman of APC, Chief Ugochukwu Agballa disclosed this on Sunday while addressing newsmen during the unveiling of the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections in Enugu State, Barrister George Ogara at the APC Southeast zone Secretariat, Enugu .
He said: “The glory of Enugu State has been destroyed by the ruling cabal; they have destroyed our yesterday. How then can we be sure of our tomorrow which they are promising to bring to our children? The children whose yesterday have been destroyed.”
Agballa said that the time has come for the people of the state to rise against the selfish and opportunistic hegemonic cabal that has destroyed the glory of Enugu State.
Insisting that it was wrong for “people who are EFCC patients to be claiming the leadership of this state,” Agballa said that the APC has”renewed the vigour and enthusiasm to win the state by choosing a defender of the rule of law, a defender of the defenceless as the deputy governorship candidate, Barrister George Ogara.”
He added: “The truth is that we want to stop the hegemony against the people of Enugu State state… The traditional and religious institutions in Enugu State have been decimated and compromised.
“We have seen people who came to Enugu with cellophane bags, who suddenly became billionaires because they occupied public offices at the detriment of our people.”

In his speech, the APC governorship candidate in the state, Chief Uche Nnaji said he had to search diligently for his deputy because he needed a quality person with an undented track record.
Nnaji said: “It hasn’t been easy all this while. I know the quality of person I’m looking for. I must get the best deputy governorship candidate.”
He said that with an experienced professional lawyer like George Tagbo Ogara as his deputy, the sky would be their limit in the governorship election.
He said the ‘thank you tour’ of the entire state which his campaign team embarked upon has exposed them to the pitiful level of poverty, underdevelopment and total neglect of certain areas in the state.
“It’s been an eye-opener in terms of dilapidation of infrastructure which our people are suffering from. The thank you tour has exposed us to having a deeper knowledge of the state.”
In his acceptance speech, the deputy governorship candidate, George Ogara pledged his loyalty to the party and his boss, the incoming governor of Enugu State come 2023.
