The people of Alor-Agu Community in Igbo-Eze South LGA of Enugu State on Tuesday, the 10th day of October, 2023 took to the street to protest the alleged plan to impose a traditional ruler on them.
The people in their numbers comprising of the elderly and the youths, male and female, as well as various party stakeholders were seen chanting songs, with placards bearing inscriptions such as “Gov. Peter Mbah, don’t be distracted in your good governance, please give us free and fair Igweship election”

Among others.
They called on the Enugu state Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah to conduct Igweship election for them rather than imposing a particular person as their royal father.
Speaking with some of the protesters, Mr. Joseph Ugwuanyi and Mr. John Eze said the protest was to enable the state Governor know the true stand of Ndi Alor-Agu in the issue of Igwe. They condemned clandestine plan by some individuals to impose Igwe on them, describing it as dangerous.

On her part, Mrs. Rabi Onah who expressed optimism over the need to conduct free fair Igweship election in the area, noted that only credible election will restore peace in the area.
Similarly, the councilor Alor-Agu Ward, Hon. Ugochukwu Ezugwu lamented the poor condition of Alor-Agu Community since they don’t have Igwe.
“We don’t have Igwe for five years now. And this has caused us underdevelopment because of no peace, we want our able governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to extend his peace-oriented governance to Alor-Agu by conducting a free, fair Igweship election for us” Ezugwu continued.
Hon. Ezugwu who doubles as the speaker, Igbo-Eze South legislative council enjoined Governor Mbah and the commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo to conduct free and fair election for Ndi Alor-Agu.
On the allegation that only members of a particular political party in the area make the plea for the Igweship election, the chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Alor-Agu Ward, Alhaji Salisu Ayogu (Dede) and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Mr. Anslem Onah reminded the governor that issue of traditional ruler election in the area started in 2019 and has nothing to do with party affiliation.
“This Igweship election that we request has nothing to do with political party affiliations, I’m PDP, we also have Labour Party loyalists here, you can see party faithfuls of both PDP and LP, all of us are ndi Alor-Agu clamouring to have Igwe” Ayogu declared.
They reminded the public that Nwada Adoro deity is since involved in the exercise, noting that to have a lasting peace in the community, a popular candidate with the required credibility and competence must emerge through free, fair and credible election.
