President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of the 12 directors of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with immediate effect.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami made this known in a notice of suspension to the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Mohammed Umar, on Tuesday.

It was learnt that the suspension was to allow an unhindered probe into activities of the EFCC under the administration of suspended Acting Chairman of commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

It was gathered that the EFCC’s executive secretary, Olanipekun Olukoyede, was among those suspended by President Buhari. Olukoyede became the Secretary to the EFCC in November 2018 following confirmation by the Senate.

Olukoyede, who was the former Chief of Staff to Magu, replaced Emmanuel Aremo after the expiration of his five-year tenure in July 2018.

The suspended EFCC boss Mr. Magu is facing a presidential panel led by Justice Ayo Salami probing various corrupt allegation levelled against him.
