The people of Amikpo Alor-Agu Community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State have on Sunday, 10th August 2020 taken the issue of their Igwe-elect, Mr. Christian Ugwuanyi to some deities in the area.

The people made up of the family heads and title holders in the clan made the move following the undue interferences from Non-Amikpo people in the selection exercise.

The clan led by their spokesperson, Chief Emmanuel Odo Nwa Omeje (Asogwa Amikpo) in their plea to the deities, said Mr. Christian Ugwuanyi remains the Igwe-elect of Alor-Agu community, and anybody against the decision should face the wrath of the deities.

They pointed out that it is their turn to produce Igwe for the community as provided in the constitution, and prayed the deities to help them get the royal throne.

“We came to report to you, Nwada Adoro Ero, we have gone to your mother, Adoro Ero, to help us, your children being Amikpo Ero.

“Amikpo came to inform you that Ero asked us to produce Igwe for them, because it is our turn and we produced Mr. Christian Ugwuanyi as our Igwe;
Nene Adoro Ero, and Nwada Adoro, we came to tell you that you should deal with anybody that is against our decision.” They prayed.

The people had on October 7, 2019 selected Mr Christian Ugwuanyi as their candidate for the Igweship throne in the community as permitted in the constitution of Alor-Agu Progressive Union (AAPU) but non-Amikpo people who are not supposed to interfere in the selection exercise have continued to delay the recognition of Christian Ugwuanyi by the State Government.

Alor-Agu community is made up of three clans but due to crisis associated with the sellection of Igwe in the area, they made a constitution allowing the throne to rotate among them, viz Uwani, Ejuona and Amikpo.

Some people interviewed in the area who pleaded anonymity said the Igweship throne which has passed through Uwani and Ejuona did not witness any interference from Amikpo people as the case today, adding that it is unfair not to take Amikpo’s decision after they waited for years.

The selection of Christian Ugwuanyi, followed the stepping down of some aspirants in the contest, though one person insisted but was rejected by the clan.

The elders of the clan also called on the state Governor, Rt Hon Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to intervene in the issue, noting that they have waited too long to receive the certificate of recognition (warrant) from the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters.

Recall that Amikpo after choosing Mr. Ugwuanyi, presented him to the community and was later recognised by the Alor-Agu town union as the Igwe-elect in the area.

Also, Alor-Agu progressive Union, AAPU led by the Town Union President, Bar Cosmas Ugwu on the 30th of December, 2019 presented the Igwe-elect, Mr Christian Ugwuanyi to the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Chairman, Hon. Peter Andy Omeje.
