Barr. George Ogara Tabugbo

Tabugbo Ogara, the 4th child of the family, was born at Nsukka on the 10th day of April 1974 to Late Chief Simeon Ogara and Mrs Euphamia Ovute Ogara, both from Unadu community in Igbo Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State. At the age of 6, George had an early exposure to city life as his father took him along to Lagos in search of greener pasture.

Young George started his elementary school at Ireti primary school, Lagos. He returned home to continue his high school at Ovoko Boys Secondary School, in Igboeze-south LGA in the early 80s where he sat for his SSCE and came out in flying colors.

His penchant for English language, storytelling and literature prepared his mind for a career in law. He studied law at the faculty of law of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State where he graduated with a second class honours degree. George was a member of the law school class that opened the Abuja campus of the Nigeria Law School in 1998. His mates at Abuja campus have fond memories of him as an all-rounder who was not found wanting in social circles; nonetheless George excelled in his studies at the law school and graduated with a second class upper division grade and was subsequently called to the Nigerian bar in September 1999.

After call to bar, George was posted to Rivers State for his compulsory NYSC national assignment which he dutifully discharged. As a new wig then, he started pupillage in the law offices of ALICE NEMI & CO, and continued in B.E.I NWOFOR & CO where he patiently learnt the ropes the very hard way. He moved on and founded LAWEDGE (LEGAL PRACTITIONERS) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a partnership that thrives and flourishes till now. George’s practice areas cut across maritime claims, oil and gas, environmental litigation, community rights, and general claims. George is a distinguished member of PILIWA (PUBLIC INTEREST LAWYERING INITIATIVE FOR WEST AFRICA),an NGO with focus on public interest protection.

George Ogara is a household name in environmental litigation in the Niger Delta. As early as 7 years post call, George had earned himself the sobriquets “Infant Terrible of Port Harcourt Bar”, “Learned Field Marshall” etc…following his diligence at work, purposefulness and doggedness.

In politics and community development, George has made his marks. His youthful and convivial configuration has greatly endeared him to numerous fans and well wishers. In the year 2011, he made his (albeit unsuccessful) debut in politics when he vied for PDP nomination to represent his Nsukka/Igbo Eze South Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives.

Until February 2019 when the Court of Appeal of Nigeria decided otherwise, BARRISTER GEORGE TABUGBO OGARA was the Enugu State Governorship Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2019 electioneering period. A position that suited him perfectly, having represented the party, APC, in almost all legal cases in the South East of Nigeria, including landmark cases for the party in both Anambra and Enugu states.

His strides in humanitarian services and Philanthropy is a very long shot. He has provided succor and direction to many jobless youths, widows and destitutes too numerous to mention here. To enhance his foresightedness in community development and economic emancipation of this people, George Ogara has, through his vision, set up several community-based companies and enterprises wit the sole purpose of reducing poverty and creating job opportunities for his people.

Some of these companies include: UCC Nigeria Limited (as Chairman and chief executive), Oko Unity Farms Limited (Chairman), Aspire Football Academy (Chairman board of trustees), and TBI Transport Company Limited (Chairman).
George is happily married with children.
